Terms of Use for Trainr

Last updated: 12 September 2026

Trainr is a workout planning app made by one person. These are the terms you agree to by using it. Like the privacy policy, this is written to be read, not to cover anybody in legalese.

Who this is between

This agreement is between you and the developer of Trainr. Apple and Google distribute the app and take the payment, and their own terms cover that part, but neither of them wrote the app and neither is responsible for it. If something is wrong with Trainr, raise it with the developer, not with them.

What Trainr does

You answer some questions about yourself and your training, and Trainr writes you a weekly workout plan. You log your sets against it, and the next week is written from what you actually lifted.

The plans are written by the app itself, on your device, not by a person. Everything you answer and log stays on your device.

The exercise videos come from YouTube

Some exercises carry a tutorial video. Trainr does not host any video: each one plays inside YouTube’s own embedded player, streamed from YouTube, with its controls, branding and any advertising intact.

Using that player means you also agree to YouTube’s Terms of Service, and what YouTube collects when you play a video is governed by the Google Privacy Policy. Nothing reaches YouTube until you tap play.

The videos are free and stay free. Trainr Pro is sold for the plans it writes, never for access to a video, and nothing you pay for unlocks one.

The free tier carries an advertisement

Without Trainr Pro the weekly plan shows one banner advertisement, served by Google AdMob under its own terms and the Google Privacy Policy. Trainr does not choose, endorse or control what is advertised, and a purchase you make from an advertiser is between you and them. Trainr Pro removes the advertisement for as long as it is active.

Training is your risk to take

Trainr is not medical advice, and the plans are not written by a doctor or a trainer.

Before you start any new training, check with a doctor — especially if you have an injury, a condition, or you have not trained in a while. During a session, stop if something hurts. Do not attempt a movement you are not confident you can do safely, and do not load a bar heavier than you can control just because a plan said a number.

You train at your own risk. By using Trainr you accept that risk of injury exists in any physical training, and that you are the one deciding whether a given session is safe for you on a given day.

The plans are written by software, and that has limits

The app wrote your plan from the answers you gave. That means:

Read your plan before you train it, and change or skip anything that does not look right for you. You are the last check, not the app.

Paying for Trainr Pro

Your first generated week is free. Trainr Pro unlocks every week after that: a fresh week each week, repeating a week that went well, rewriting one that does not suit you, and starting a new plan whenever your goal changes. Logging, the timer, the videos and your history are free and stay free.

Your data

Everything Trainr collects, and the little that leaves your device, is described in the privacy policy. Read that too.

Age

Trainr is not intended for anyone under 13, and the app will not accept an age below 13.

What not to do with it

Do not try to unlock Pro without paying for it. The app is licensed to you to use, not to resell or republish.

No warranty

Trainr is provided as it is. It is a one-person project, not a service with an uptime guarantee, and it may contain faults. Nothing here promises that it will always work, always be available, or suit your purpose.

Limits of responsibility

To the extent the law allows, the developer is not liable for injury, loss or damage arising from your use of Trainr or from following a plan it wrote. This does not exclude anything that cannot be excluded by law, and nothing here takes away rights you have as a consumer where you live.

If you got Trainr from the App Store

Apple’s standard licence agreement also applies to copies downloaded from the App Store, and you can read it here: https://www.apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula/

That agreement covers the software licence: what you may do with the app, and Apple’s part as the distributor rather than the maker. This document covers Trainr itself — what it does, the training you do at your own risk, that software wrote your plan, and how paying works. Where the two disagree about the licence, Apple’s agreement wins for App Store copies.

Changes

If these terms change, the date at the top changes with them, and the history is public in this repository. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept the new terms.
